Sean Strickland RIPPED for comments on women fighters and flyweights by UFC champ Alexandre Pantoja

UFC fighters have an array of views about the world and its dealings. UFC flyweight champion, Alexandre Pantoja recently fired back at Sean Strickland‘s inflammatory remarks. He condemned Strickland’s views on women’s fighting and smaller weight classes like flyweight.

Pantoja was recently interviewed by Shak Fu. He questioned why Strickland would wish financial ruin on the lower-weight class fighters. He said that the lower-weight class fighters are doing exactly what the higher-weight class fighters do, and that is to provide for their families. These are Alexandre Pantoja’s words:

You want [me to] lose my money, lose my job? That’s so crazy… why you say that…I’m very mad when [Sean] Strickland said that for women and flyweight guys, shut your mouth. Respect my job, I put food on my table with that.

Sean Strickland had crassly argued that the UFC should get rid of certain divisions. He specifically targeted the lighter divisions like the bantamweight and flyweight divisions. He had also called for removing the whole of the women’s MMA from the UFC. His insensitive comments drew widespread criticism from the MMA community.

Pantoja is set to fight against number 10 ranked contender Steve Erceg at UFC 301. The 125-pound king highlighted flyweights’ grueling work ethic and skillsets required. Pantoja aimed to dispel misguided notions about smaller fighters lacking talent. His impassioned defense struck a chord with fans disappointed by Strickland’s remarks. While known for his outspoken persona, many felt Strickland went too far this time.

Pantoja was recently interviewed by The NY Post Sports. He revealed that even though he was the champion, he was not sleeping on Erceg. Pantoja said that Erceg was a dangerous opponent and had a great skill set.

He made three good fights in the UFC against three good fighters… He knocked out Matt Schnell. He [made] a good, good statement. That’s why the UFC is thinking it’s interesting to give him a chance.
