AEW received a huge boost last night in the form of Mercedes Mone. The seven-time Women’s Champion arrived on Dynamite: Big Business and sent a message to the female roster. Of course, the latest edition was held in Mone’s hometown of Boston at the TD Garden. Therefore, it wasn’t surprising to see her in attendance for the Celtics vs. Suns game.
The broadcast cut to the CEO sitting in the crowd during the game. Retired NBA player and commentator, Reggie Miller, gave a huge shoutout to Mone. The latter was doing her signature pose while Miller talked about the newest AEW signing. He also claimed that the 32-year-old is ready to rewrite history. At the end, Miller advertised Mone for next week’s edition of Dynamite on TBS.
Mone’s week got better as the Celtics emerged victorious against the Suns (127–112). Evidently, the undeniable star power of the former WWE star will prove beneficial for AEW. Most importantly, Mercedes Mone will bolster the women’s division, which has been improving since the start of the year. The CEO teased her first feud at the end of Dynamite, helping Willow Nightingale fend off Skye Blue and TBS Champion, Julia Hart.
While fans were surprised that Mone didn’t lay out the woman who put her out of action, they were happy to see her finally back in action. Needless to say, many are excited to witness the new chapter in the career of the talented wrestler.
Reason behind failed talks between WWE and Mercedes Mone
In December 2023, the rumor mill started speculating a potential return for Sasha Banks to WWE. The hottest free agent in town dropped subtle hints online, indicating that she was indeed headed to the Stamford-based promotion. However, talks suddenly fizzled out. Later, it was almost a confirmation that Mercedes Mone would show up in AEW. Now, a new report has shed light on WWE’s pursuit of Mone.

However, they couldn’t come to an agreement on the terms. Despite that, sources revealed that the conversations were friendly and that WWE’s side wished her luck.
Late last year, WWE sources confirmed in an official capacity that WWE and Mercedes Monè had conversations, but as of late December, those were no longer ongoing, and the two sides couldn’t come to terms.

While Mone has arrived in AEW, she did state that a future run in WWE was definitely on the cards. Some fans expected her to show up during the Royal Rumble to help her best friend, Bayley. The latter has been involved in an engrossing rivalry with the faction that she created, Damage CTRL.
