LeBron James has now become the first player to reach 40,000 points in his NBA career. In the Los Angeles Lakers 124-114 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Saturday night, the All-Star from Los Angeles finally cleared the threshold. Two days after James gave former Cincinnati Bengals great Chad Johnson the game ball from his memorable night, Johnson flexed. But he was unable to keep up his fictional story for very long.

Co-host of the “Nightcap” program with Shannon Sharpe, Chad Johnson, began a made-up story on his program. He told his audience that, before Saturday’s game, he had sent James a tweet asking for the game ball that would mark the 40,000-point milestone. James, to his surprise, consented. Subsequently, Johnson made every effort to convince his supporters that James had delivered him the real game ball.

Chad Johnson said via Nightcap:

Check this out, guys. This is the proper ball. I want you guys to see it. It’s the real deal. LeBron, if you see this, man, thank you. Thank you, Rich Paul, and Savannah. All of you that convinced LeBron has sent me this ball after reaching that milestone of 40, 000 points.
Chad Johnson said

Johnson further disclosed that the ball had been personally autographed for him by the four-time MVP. Sharpe didn’t buy Johnson’s argument. In jest, he implied that Johnson had recently purchased the ball from a nearby sporting goods store. When Johnson turned the ball to see the autograph, which said “LeBron James 40k points,” neither player could remain calm. Johnson’s ridiculous story caused everyone to chuckle together.

Shannon Sharpe called LeBron James ‘Haley’s Comet’

The Los Angeles Lakers were down 21 points early in the fourth quarter of their game against the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday, and it appeared as though they would suffer a crushing defeat. However, that’s when they pulled the trigger, or more precisely, the 39-year-old pulled the trigger. In the last quarter, James went all out, scoring 19 points and dribbling five times to lead the Lakers to an exciting 116–112 triumph.

After his amazing performance, the 39-year-old was showered with compliments on Twitter. Among them was Shannon Sharpe, who referenced a tweet on X about James’ performance. He identified James as the 75–76-year comet known as Haley’s Comet. By equating James with Haley’s comet, a player who occasionally appears, he conveyed the idea that James was a living gem.

The only game James did not play in throughout the “Battle of L.A.” season series ended in a 3-1 victory for the Lakers. And he continues to maintain his reputation as the real game goat as the only player to reach the 40k milestone.
