The Miami Heat have been having great playoff runs for the past few years. Since Butler’s joining in 2019, the team has made it to the Eastern Conference finals thrice, making it to the NBA finals twice. Despite great playoff runs, Butler and the team have yet to win a championship.

While talking with Bleacher Report, the Heat forward was asked about his persona as the “Playoff Jimmy” and the process of the switch from the regular season to the playoffs. Butler’s answer turned heads in the NBA world. The star answered,

You mean how can I turn into the greatest basketball player in the world all of a sudden? I don’t know, man. I’m just different.

According to Butler, as the playoffs are approaching, this is the time for the player to play at his best. He talked about players on the team starting to fulfill their roles to win games.

You’re getting in a rhythm. And with my music, I’m getting in my rhythm. Speaking for myself and everybody else in this locker room, we want to win. That’s our focus.

Jimmy Butler’s statement does not sit well with NBA fans

NBA fans are familiar with Butler’s persona as the “Playoff Jimmy”. The improvement in the player’s performance has always amazed the fans. As the time for playoffs approaches, fans anticipate seeing the player’s alter ego taking over.

But the fans were not happy with Butler calling himself the “greatest basketball player in the world.” Despite the improved performance, the player has not been able to win a championship. Hence, NBA Twitter could not help the troll the athlete for his claim.

Butler is averaging 21.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.7 assists with 50.1 FG% this season. The Miami Heat is currently the 7th seed in the Eastern Conference standings. As the team made it to the NBA finals last year, based on that the fans have high expectations this year as well.
