February 18, 2024, saw the NBA host its 73rd All-Star game in their history in which we have seen the event grow more and more with time. With various teams in their own cities, we have seen some great hosts over the years. But not many know about the three-rule requirement that is quite important to host these All-Star events – meaning not all teams are eligible to host this event.
Sports columnist and writer, Joe Mussatto recently reported the three requirements a team or host must have in order to host the All-Star Weekend. While some are understandable, some may find a few to be quite hectic in a way – too busy for the whole weekend.
The following are the three requirements to host the exclusive event as tweeted by Joe,
1. 7,250 hotel rooms and a minimum of three five-star hotels.
2. Convention center of 650,000 square feet of exhibition space.
3. 75 nonstop domestic flights and at least 20 international flights.
The NBA 2024 All-Star was hosted in the city of Indianapolis, where many believed the event didn’t quite live up to the expectations as many were angry and dissatisfied with the lackluster performance. As for the 2025 and 2026 events, they will be held in San Francisco and Los Angeles, which fans hope will be a lot better than what they got this year.

After the tweet from the writer went viral, fans were quick to give their reactions to the list and what it comprised of. Several of the fans were in quite a state of shock at the rules that the NBA followed when allocating the NBA All-Star events to a city.

The change shouldn’t effect the majority of cities. Teams that wouldn’t make this cut would probably be Milwaukee, Indiana, Cleveland, Charlotte, Detroit, Minnesota, OKC, Utah, San Antonio, Sacramento.
