The Denver Nuggets and Miami Heat faced-off in Game 1 of the 2023 NBA Finals, but not everyone was invested in the action. While most NBA analysts were excited to watch the game, Stephen A. Smith was hosting his show “NBA in Stephen A’s World” and discussing football instead. Smith’s guests, including former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning, had diverged from basketball, leaving fans frustrated.
Portland Trailblazers point guard Damian Lillard was among those fans. He tweeted his discontent with Smith’s show during the game, stating “When Stephen A show over lol… like come on bra,” and received support from other fans expressing the same sentiment.
Despite the distraction, Denver ultimately won the game 104-93 thanks to impressive performances from Nikola Jokic and Michael Porter Jr. Miami, however, is known for making unexpected comebacks, and the Finals are far from over. The Heat will look to even the series in Game 2 before heading home for Games 3 and 4.
