Ronda Rousey might be looking to wrap up her WWE career. At Money in the Bank, The Baddest Woman on the Planet got betrayed by her own tag-team partner, Shayna Baszler. Although it was abrupt, the creative team had no choice but to rush this angle. The split was always planned between the two, but not exactly how it panned out.
According to Dave Meltzer, Rousey’s injury prior to WrestleMania 39 screwed up the timeline. Had she never gotten hurt in the first place, WWE planned to give the former UFC star a prolonged title run with those women’s tag team straps. Also, that would’ve allowed the creative to plant seeds for their eventual breakup as an outcome of internal cracks, which obviously never came to fruition.
That being said, WWE had to pull the trigger at Money in the Bank. Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer that Rousey has a hard-out date in her WWE contract. Before leaving the company, the Arm Collector always wanted to have a singles program with her real-life best friend, Shayna Baszler. Rousey wants to repay Baszler for whatever she has done to bring the former into professional wrestling.
A match between the two is inalienable. Given that Rousey isn’t hanging around for long, WWE might slug it out at SummerSlam. In the aforementioned report, it wasn’t specified whether Ronda Rousey is certainly leaving WWE or just planning another hiatus. That should become clear in the forthcoming weeks.
Is Ronda Rousey planning for a UFC return post-WWE departure?
No doubt, Ronda Rousey left the UFC with a heavy heart. Knowing that her time was up, she made the choice to leave combat sports and scout other ventures. That eventually led to her WWE arrival in 2018. Since then, she has accomplished so much in this business. At one point, she was the hottest thing going around in professional wrestling.
However, for some reason, her post-motherhood run has been absolutely shambolic. Fans lost that mutual connection with her and eventually her stock kept nosediving. It has now reached the point where even the hottest wrestling markets don’t care for her. It almost remains a snoozefest while she’s performing in that ring. Maybe, the Olympic Bronze medalist has realized that she has had her peak days in WWE.
With Shayna Baszler likely to be her last WWE program, Rousey could leave the company soon. That being said, there has been a growing demand for Rousey’s UFC return. Many critics, too, believe that she could give UFC another shot before drawing the curtains on her career for good.
