The Sims is a series of life simulation-based video games developed by Maxis and published by Electronic Arts (EA) games. The fans have been wondering whatโs happening with the next Sims title behind the scenes, and this info might be interesting for the fans to know along with the other usual information. So, letโs get right into it
It seems like the developer of the game, i.e., Maxis, is working on something behind the scene. According to a new job listing spotted on the career section of the Maxis on the Electronic Arts website, talent hiring for the free-to-enter Project Rene is underway.
Well, For those who are unaware, Project Rene is essentially a code name given to the mainline SIMS title. It was announced in October last year, and since then, more information about the title has been revealed.
Currently, the game is in the early stages of development, and the name, i.e., Project Rene, takes inspiration from the words such as renaissance, renewal, and rebirth, which are said to play an important role in the development of the title.

Furthermore, it looks like the upcoming Sims title will be the first title in the series to get a mobile version with cross-play support.
Moving on, Sadly, the job listing has been taken down from the official website, though the Sims community was able to get the screengrab of the job listing.
In the job listing, one of the responsibilities mentioned for the potential applicants applying for the Head of Marketing & Marketplace role was to own pricing of all the content in this free-to-enter game, making sure that we have the optimal pricing & content architecture. This indicates that the upcoming Sims title, i.e., Sims 5, could potentially take a free-to-play route on launch.
With that being said, it does not mean that the players wonโt be spending money on the title. As you may know, EA Games is infamous for having a microtransactions-based business model that covers all their games.
For context purposes, look at how much the Sims 4 currently costs with all its game kits, expansions, and other paid DLC items. An analysis done by the GameRant, tells us that the game will take about $1000 taken off from the players if they buy all of the DLC & everything. Now, that isnโt even a moderate sum taken off from the players considering the things that should technically be part of the free base game.
Anyway, if the free-to-play model does take shape, then the next life simulation title will surely get the fans excited as soon it launches, and what would be the microtransaction expenses of the game are anyway a long shot to determine.
Moreover, when the Sims 4 was made free to play last year in October with the announcement of Project Rene, the game saw a huge spike in terms of the player pool that came to play the game, as per the statistics gathered from the SteamDB page.
Currently, it is unknown how the developer will handle the DLC situation if the game is indeed free-to-play, as indicated by the job listing.
