The ever-famous England’s Barmy Army, who were a constant source of attraction during the first Test match of Ashes 2023 at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground have not turned up at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground where the ongoing second match of the series is underway.

From trolling the likes of Australian vice-captain Steve Smith, taking jibes at batter Travis Head, accusing the Aussie team of cheating, or celebrating the return back of Moeen Ali to the England Test side, the Barmy Army were up on their feet with their party fervor and alluring chants throughout the five days of the previous Test in Birmingham.

Fans across the social media sites have expressed disappointment on their absence from the stadium, with some of them even describing the Lord’s stadium atmosphere using words like ‘boring’ and ‘lacking energy’.

The members of the Army, however, have made sure to gather at London’s Clubhouse 5 premium sports bar, where the match is being live telecast along with facility of the pub’s exotic drinks and delicacies.

Why Is The Barmy Army Not Present At Lord’s?

Known as the ‘Home of Cricket’, the Lord’s Cricket Stadium is the one venue in England where fancy dress and chanting is discouraged and the crowd is expected to enjoy the ‘Gentleman’s game’ in the traditional manner of the English elite.

Thus, the party ambience which is usually created by England’s Barmy Army across other stadiums in the country is missing during the second Test, as they have not been allowed an entry within the stadium (as a collective group). Also, while chanting is discouraged, the musical instruments are not permitted to be carried by the spectators as well. Thus, the trumpeter, who leads the Barmy Army with their chants and songs is also not allowed to mark his presence.

Most importantly, since tickets at the venue are sold by ballot, it would anyway not be possible for the Barmy Army to sit together and enjoy the game.
