Every sport has its own set of rules and the players have to abide by them to avoid any controversy. One such major rule that is common across different sports is the one of testing negative for performance-enhancement drugs. For that very reason, a doping test is extremely important and players must make themselves available for these tests. Italian ace Fabio Fognini however is facing a ban risk for violating the rules.
Fognini wasnโt at his residence when the testing team had come for the doping test. The Italian was in Turkey in the capital city of Istanbul watching the Champions League final between football teams Inter Milan and Manchester City.
The very fact that he wasnโt present for the test means he has violated the rules and risks facing a ban for the same. It is compulsory for every player to be available for these tests as they help avoid any unfair advantage.
Fognini however mustnโt have been happy even after attending the final. A die-hard Inter Milan fan, the Italian saw his team lose 1-0 to Manchester City. Now all he can do from his side is to request the authorities to conduct another test. However, it is unlikely as the rules are extremely strict for every player, and violating them means trouble.
Fabio Fognini: A promising talent in the Big 3 Era
The last 15-odd years in the world of tennis have been the most competitive the sport has ever seen. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic havenโt allowed many players to make it big as to win a tournament one had to beat at least two out of the three. Defeating one was a mountain to climb let alone defeating two. However, Fabio Fognini was one of the few who made a name in this era.
Often seen as a challenger on the court he did show signs of being a promising talent. The Italian started first in 2004 and over the years climbed highest till nine in the world. However, in recent years, plagued by injury, the Italian has fallen to 122 in the rankings. The 36-year-old still does show glimpses of his voyage-like past. He still makes the next generation run for their money. But Fognini seems far from his absolute best.
