England pacer Stuart Broad is undoubtedly one of the most important assets in the team. The 36-year-old is still equally potent as he was a few years back. In fact, the experience of having played for over one-and-a-half decades reflects in his bowling. Also, there are no questions about his commitment and loyalty.
Nevertheless, with England and Australia going against each other in the first Ashes Test, Broad proved what he can do for his team. As claimed by Nasser Hussain, who is following the match from close quarters, the veteran pacer bowled with an injury and went on to claim two important wickets- Marnus Labuschange and Steve Smith in Australia’s second innings.
Hussain has claimed that Broad was facing issues with his leg but continued to bowl at full throttle.
“And if you want to know how much Broad puts his body through, you should have seen his feet after the first innings. Shoeless, he walked towards me, his whole foot strapped, toenail falling off, blood seeping out of the bandages,” Hussain wrote about Broad in his column for The Daily Mail.
Stuart Broad gets emotional talking about his father
Stuart Broad has claimed close to 600 wickets in Test cricket and has got many milestones to celebrate. But the 36-year-old has one memory stuck with him. Broad, while talking to BBC on the How to Win the Ashes podcast, mentioned how his father called him to celebrate his 300 wickets.
“The buzzer went and I was like ‘who is that?’ I was tired, just wanted to lie on the sofar, see my girlfriend and lie with the dogs. So I have gone to answer the phone, ‘eh-up! Who is it?’ ‘It’s your dad!’ So, he brought a nice bottle of red over, he wanted to have a glass with me for the three hundredth wicket, which was lovely actually,” recalled Broad.
