Brooklyn Nets star Day’Ron Sharpe hilariously had his Shaqtin’ moment against the Phoenix Suns last night. The 23-year-old’s complete failure quickly went viral considering his team’s position in the game at the time. Sharpe was giving his all on the court and accidentally did a bit too much earning his opposition team two points.
The play occurred halfway through the second quarter. Phoenix’s guard Devin Booker worked hard to score near the rim but missed the shot. Day’Ron Sharpe who was next to him, trying to grab the rebound made the mistake. As the forward/center was raised to the rim too high, Sharpe unintentionally put the ball in the basket with both his hands.
The player immediately regretted the play as confusion was written on his face. The dunk resulted in two points for the Suns, crediting Nick Richards as he was the closest to the basket. The mistake cost the Nets, as Phoenix extended their lead to 33-24.
Naturally, Sharpe received a lot of criticism for his error. But that is not the reputation the star has for the Nets. Sharpe is a tough 6’9” rebounder for Brooklyn. Last week, the forward had 14 rebounds against the LA Clippers. After the game, Sharpe even admitted to taking pride in his rebounding. But it seems that it was not Sharpe’s day against the Suns.

After that play, the Suns kept dominating Kevin Durant’s former team. Despite the loss and the surprising mistake, Sharpe had nine rebounds, eight points, and a couple of assists. The team had to struggle while missing D’Angelo Russell. Regardless of the efforts from players such as Keon Johnson, the Nets took the 84-108 loss at home. But Sharpe’s Shaqtin moment became a hot topic for fans.
‘Shaqtin a fool’ is one of the fans’ favorite segments on Inside the NBA. Fans thoroughly enjoy watching players make silly mistakes during games. Hence, Day’Ron Sharpe after dunking on the opposition team’s basket was certainly calling for a social media outburst. The Nets are currently struggling being the 12th team in the Eastern Conference rankings. This did not help when fans spotted Sharpe’s mistake.
The play quickly went viral as fans started trolling the Nets star on Twitter. The team was accused of ‘tanking’ and Sharpe was asked to move to the ‘G league’. The play received a wide range of reactions from the league followers. Check out some of the reactions from Twitter below.

Despite the mistake, Sharpe is currently having the best season of his career. Drafted in 2021, the Nets star is averaging the highest points and assists. But the player’s offensive rebound stats are the highlight of his record. That might be the reason the Nets are receiving trade requests for Sharpe.
