There seems to be no answer to Red Bull’s dominance in recent years. However, French driver Esteban Ocon believes he could battle the Dutchman in similar cars.

Esteban Ocon expressed his belief in competing alongside Verstappen for a world title in the same cars. He acknowledged Max’s dominance with Red Bull. However, Ocon’s primary focus was fighting for the championship, expressing unwavering self-belief. He emphasized his goal of becoming a world champion.

“Sure. I see myself fighting with Verstappen fighting for a World Championship if we had the same car. Now Max is doing an incredible job. He is dominating with Red Bull. But I don’t care who the driver was. I want to fight for the championship,” the Frenchmen told DAZN (translated from French).

Esteban also revealed his desire to be seen as a nice person on the track, although he recognized the intensity of his riding style and accepted it. “I’ve always believed in myself. We have a long road ahead of us, but my goal is to be world champion. The truth is I don’t want people to think I’m a tough guy because I’m a nice guy out there. But my way of riding is hard. It’s probably true, but I’m happy with it,” Ocon stated.

Alpine finished the 2022 constructors in an impressive fourth place. The start of the 2023 season has been slow, but the team, especially Ocon, has quickly recovered. After an impressive P3 in Monaco, where he fended off Lewis Hamilton, Alpine will surely hope for better results in the coming races.

The best that Alpine did before the Monaco GP was six points in Saudi Arabia, Spain, and Canada. Monaco was a massive turning point for Ocon and his team. He had a podium finish for Ocon, whereas his teammate Pierre Gasly was back in P7. This week’s Canadian Grand Prix, too, saw Esteban Ocon beat his teammate Gasly after finishing in 8th place.

Currently, Ocon is P9 in the drivers’ championship with 29 points. At the same time, Gasly’s 15 points put him right behind his teammate in P10. Alpine is placed at a decent 5th position in the constructors’ title with 44 points.
