The following paragraph discusses…

Mercedes’ new wonder George Russell brought a podium win to the team at the Spanish GP which was held a few weeks ago. Fresh from a spectacular performance in Barcelona, the 25-year-old was finally confident with his Mercedes W14’s pace. Added to that, Russell was even more pumped up when he unlocked a second row start to the Canadian GP after getting P4 in the Qualifying behind his teammate Lewis Hamilton. But even though things seemed picture-perfect for the Norfolk native, it soon took a turn for the worse when George reached Turn 8 in his very first lap.

As soon as the lights went out and the racers launched their cars, both the Silver Arrows apparently had the upper hand on Fernando Alonso‘s Aston Martin. While Lewis Hamilton made his way past the Spaniard, George Russell tried but in vain. Still, he continued the fight for a podium as his W14 reached Turn 8. George went wide while swerving through the tricky spot on the circuit, and he went over the sausage kerbs in the next corner. This led to his car being launched into the air, unable to prevent the right side of the W14 from going straight into the wall.

Formula 1 is the pinnacle of motorsports, and the competition is so steep that one single mistake can drown all hopes for a good weekend. Even though George showed stellar performance on Saturday, he fell short of reaching his fans’ expectations at the Main Race. And then he shockingly admitted he had no idea his move over the sausage kerbs would hamper his entire race. He said, “I went a bit wide into Turn 8, knew I was going to hit the kerb but I wasn’t expecting the sausage kerb to have such a violent response.”

George Russell’s incident in the very first lap at the Canadian GP resulted in the Briton going down to the very bottom of the grid. He described his situation at that time, saying, “The next thing [after going over the sausage kerb], I am in the air and lost the rear when I landed, then in the wall.” George Russell is currently in an all-in fight with other heavyweight F1 racers like Carlos Sainz and even his own teammate Lewis Hamilton to enter into top 5 on the Drivers’ Championship table. His defeat in Montreal will be a sore sight for many fans.

On the other hand, George’s teammate Lewis Hamilton delivered one of his best performances in recent times by battling with Fernando Alonso to get his second P2 finish this year. While speaking at the interviews, the Briton jokingly mentioned he could do it because Fernando was getting slow with age. To this, the Spaniard retorted that he needs only two week till the next race in Austria to show Lewis his true worth by outscoring him.
