One of the stories from the ongoing Halle Open that has been making the rounds on the internet is that Australian ace Nick Kyrgios has withdrawn from the event, citing knee troubles. He was drawn against Lorenzo Sonego in the first round of the Halle Open. This was going to be the Australian’s second tournament after his comeback at Stuttgart last week, where he lost to Wu Yibing in straight sets.

As per the wild speculations, the withdrawal has a lot to do with his fitness before the prestigious 2023 Wimbledon begins. Kyrgios was the runner-up last time at the All England Club, where he lost to none other than Novak Djokovic in the final. He would love to have another run like that. However, having only played one game in 2023 due to his injuries, it seems like an uphill task for the Australian.

Kyrgios has been struggling since Wimbledon last year. At first, he had a few personal issues to deal with. Then his body couldn’t take the stress as he kept on pulling out of events, citing various issues.

With that being said, there is no denying the fact that the crowd would love to see him back on the court as soon as possible, as he certainly is one of the great entertainers of the sport. Kyrgios, as expected, did look rusty in his match against Wu. He still managed to come up with a few staggering shots where Wu didn’t stand a chance. Eventually, it wasn’t enough to see him through.

The 2022 Wimbledon was a special one for the Australian. A fortnight he would want to remember for a long time and gain a lot of confidence from it every time he steps on the court. It started with a tricky five-set first-round match against Paul Jubb. Kyrgios came out of it somehow and then brushed off Filip Krajinovic in the second round.

He then faced Stefanos Tsitsipas in his third-round match and ended up winning in four sets. However, the match is known more for the claim Tsitsipas made about Kyrgios calling him a bully. The fourth round was another tricky 5-set thriller against Brandon Nakashima, and somehow Kyrgios fought through that too as he easily blew away Cristian Garin in the quarters. He was set up for a much-anticipated semi-final against Rafael Nadal.

However, to the crowd’s disappointment, that didn’t take place as the Spaniard withdrew from the clash, citing an abdominal muscle tear. As a result, Kyrgios found himself in the Wimbledon final against tennis great Novak Djokovic. He easily took the first set. However, it didn’t look great after that, as he succumbed to the pressure Djokovic put on him and lost in four sets.
