Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone, known for his exciting fighting style, was undeniably among the elite fighters during his prime in the UFC. However, in 2022, after years of battling in the octagon, he officially announced his retirement from mixed martial arts. Now, years later, the 41-year-old UFC veteran making a comeback to the promotion has ignited a flurry of reactions from many.
A few months ago, Donald Cerrone posted a video on his social media, indicating his interest in returning to the UFC. Recently, during an interview on The Pacman Jones Show, Cerrone announced that he has entered the UFC drug-testing pool in preparation for a comeback in 2025. This demonstrates that the 41-year-old American fighter is serious about rejoining the promotion.
While Cerrone is confident and excited about returning to the octagon, UFC head honcho Dana White feels differently. White is reportedly confused about Cowboy’s comeback, as he believes that the fighter has nothing left to prove. Nevertheless, the 41-year-old American fighter has clearly outlined his reasons for wanting to compete again. Interestingly, White is not the only person who discussed this situation.
UFC legend Daniel Cormier is another prominent figure in the community. However, unlike Dana White, Cormier criticized Cerrone for his steroid use. Interestingly, in the video Cowboy posted about his return to the promotion, he admitted to using steroids after retiring from the sport. Cormier appeared to lash out at Cerrone for using that as a loophole to come back to the octagon stronger.
Fight fans has a negative reactions on Donald Cerrone coming back to UFC
Donald Cerrone made his UFC debut over a decade ago and retired from the promotion in 2022. Throughout his illustrious career in the UFC, Cerrone faced many formidable opponents, including Conor McGregor and Justin Gaethje, among others. However, after experiencing six consecutive defeats and one no-contest, Cowboy decided to hang up his gloves for good.
Many fight fans are not enthusiastic about Cerrone returning to the ring after a three-year hiatus. Consequently, they have expressed their strong opinions regarding Cowboy re-entering the UFC drug testing pool, with plans for a comeback in the summer of 2025. Check out some of their reactions below.
I love Cerrone and everything he has accomplished in MMA but I think this is a mistake

I love cowboy but I don’t wanna see him come back I know the juice has him feeling good but he’s a glass cannon he just simply can’t take damage anymore

They’re probably bringing him back to feed him to Conor McGregor for a tune up/lay up. Conor can’t beat anyone on the current active roster outside of Tony Ferguson.
-Advertisement-They can’t sell a Tony fight since he’s on a several fight losing streak, so a rematch with Donald is the next…

He hasn’t been the same since he got wrecked by a shoulder

Maybe a fight against someone like Jack Hermansson would be a good start. However, after the layoff, I don’t see Donald being very successful.

Has anyone other than Donald Cerrone confirmed he’s coming back? I thought Dana said he’s not interested.

Sad.
Always sad when an old fighter comes back.
He won’t be better than when he left, and he was taking beatings.

This guy is washed. That was the reason as to why he retired.
Now, he is simply here to earn a living and be a punching bag for new prospects.

Over the years, many fighters have come out of retirement to compete in the UFC. One notable example is Jose Aldo. However, when it comes to Donald Cerrone, fight fans are not as welcoming to the veteran’s return to the promotion. Many believe that Cerrone would struggle against rising UFC prospects, potentially becoming a punching bag in the octagon.
