Sunrisers Hyderabad were considered one of the most balanced sides and the strongest team on paper after the IPL 2023 mini-auction. However, their players were a no-show throughout the season as the team managed just 4 wins in 14 matches.
The biggest disappointment for SRH was no major contribution from their highest bid Harry Brook who was bought for a whopping 13.25 crores in the auction. He scored a mere 190 runs in the 11 matches that he played and was never asked to bowl.
Before the upcoming IPL season, SRH could look to release a few players from their squad.
Players Sunrisers Hyderabad will look to release ahead of IPL 2024 Auction
1. Mayank Agarwal
A batter of high caliber, Mayank Agarwal could not find his touch in this season of the IPL. He scored 270 runs in 10 matches for Hyderabad including one fifty to his name. He was benched in four games and doesn’t seem to have been backed much by his team. Considering his experience and abilities, the past two IPL seasons have been below par for Agarwal. SRH could plan to release him from his expensive 8.25CR price tag.
2. Washington Sundar

The all-rounder played just 7 matches in 2023, picking up just 3 wickets and scoring 60 runs. He hasn’t done wonders in his previous seasons as well and releasing him could open up the opportunity for SRH to get in a better contributor for the team.
3. Harry Brook

Barring his only century against KKR, Brook scored just 90 runs in his 10 matches. While someone of his caliber should be backed more to display his talent, the sensible thing for SRH to do would be to release him in the auction and buy him back for a lower price.
4. Abdul Samad
Abdul Samad (Image via IPLT20)Though SRH did retain Abdul Samad ahead of the IPL 2022 auction, it is vital to note that the ‘hard-hitting’ batter has not been effective for SRH ever since he was picked in 2020. In his 34 IPL matches, he has scored just 395 runs at an average of 19.75 with a strike rate of 137.63.
