The recently concluded World Test Championship (WTC) Final left many Indians disappointed. They have not expected the one-off Test to be a lopsided contest where Rohit Sharma and his men tasted an embarrassing 209-run defeat against Australia at The Oval.
India lifted a trophy in an ICC event back in 2013 when they won the Champions Trophy. The recent loss not only shattered many dreams but also brought Rohit Sharma to the center for throwing scathing attacks with many voicing that he should be sacked as a captain.
But former India cricketer and former selector Dilip Vengarkar believes the main problem is deep-rooted. Itโs the inability to function properly while selecting teams and making team composition.
Vengsarkar pointed out the โunfortunateโ part of Indian cricket. He opined that the selectors do not have the vision, deep knowledge of cricket, or even cricketing sense. To prove his point, he cited last yearโs example when tours were overlapping. Main players were not available for matches, so instead of grooming the future captain after Rohit Sharma, the selectors gave Shikhar Dhawan the role.

Dilip Vengsarkar slams BCCI for its celebration of being the richest cricketing board
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) often creates headlines for its signing huge deals with the media for the rights. The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been blamed by many former cricketers for being the main reason behind Indiaโs lackluster show in ICC events.
Dilip Vengsarkar questioned BCCI what is its strength apart from being the richest cricketing board by selling the media rights for crores of money. He asserted that the IPL shouldnโt be the only achievement of the BCCI.
โYou havenโt groomed anybody. You just play as it comes. You talk about the richest cricket board in the world, where is the bench strength? Just having IPL, earning crores of rupees in media rights, it should not be the only achievement,โ Vengsarkar told the Hindustan Times.
