AEW’s weekly Saturday show, AEW Collision, debuted last night on TNT. The event featured the return of CM Punk after nearly nine months of hiatus. The show was already hyped for Punk’s return and for its Saturday debut. Although another star who made his return to the show after nine months was Andrade El Idolo, His return not only saw his in-ring action but also paid tribute to his wife from WWE.

Buddy Matthews and Andrade clashed against each other in the second match of the show. Both men looked in great shape as they faced off. Andrade, who got babyface reactions from the crowd upon his return, performed brilliantly. Even Buddy’s heel persona was perfectly displayed through his cunning moves. But upon getting more cheers, Andrade stood up to the crowd and took control of the match.

The amazing matchup had an even better ending, where the match went into suspense for the tap-out. Andrade had targeted Buddy’s leg throughout the match and locked him in a Figure-Four. El Idolo then wisely transformed the leg-lock into Charlotte Flair‘s finisher Figure-Eight and forced Buddy to tap out.

Andrade El Idolo’s Figure-Eight leg-lock was an homage to her real-life wife, Charlotte. On the other hand, Rhea Ripley‘s real-life boyfriend, Matthews, was unable to pick up the win. This cross-promotional pairing between two promotions is always in discussion regarding their views on their respective brands. As a result, Flair would be happy to see her husband pick up the win on his anticipated return with the use of her finisher. The video can be seen here.

On June 17, 2023, the world witnessed AEW Collision’s premiere on TNT. AEW’s new weekly show debuted on Saturday and was hyped for the return of CM Punk. Another reason is fans’ excitement for more AEW content throughout the week as the show debuted. The hyped show was advertised much earlier and was correctly scheduled for June 17 due to certain reasons.

Wrestling Observer‘s Dave Meltzer stated that AEW wanted the least competition for its debut show. AEW had fixed this date as Collision’s premiere episode because major sports events were not scheduled around this date. The show held at the United Center in Chicago was a success due to the hometown crowd supporting Punk.

The show started with Punk’s return, and him addressing the crowd, and it even ended with his six-man tag team match. His return after a nine-month hiatus was likely to please the audience. Punk gave back the love to his fans by cutting a promo after the show went off-air, keeping it exclusive for the people who showed up.
