After another disappointing loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday, Joel Embiid spoke to The Athletic’s Tony Jones after the game. In his interview, Embiid revealed his frustrations with the team insider who leaked details of his confrontation with Tyrese Maxey to the media.

Joel Embiid did confirm the contents of the confrontation between him and Maxey. However, his primary issue lay with the information escaping the Sixers locker room, which is meant to be sacrosanct to the players.
We talked about a lot of things, I don’t want to get into the details, but that whole thing (with Maxey) probably took 30 seconds. But then again, it’s Joel Embiid, so we’ve got to make everything blown out of proportion.

Notably, Embiid did deny the comments about his persistent tardiness this season, revealing that the incidents only occurred ‘once or twice.’ To his credit, he did improve upon his early season struggles, scoring 35 points against the Grizzlies in their 111-117 loss.

I wanted to speak up. I felt the need to do that because I wanted to share that we are better than what we have shown on the floor. There was a lot said, but it is what it is. We said what we had to say, and we have to figure out a way to move on to the rest of the season.

The Sixers’ focus at the moment will be moving on from the verbal altercation between two of their top stars. After missing out for over a week with a hamstring injury, Tyrese Maxey returned to the 76ers lineup on Wednesday.
Although he only scored 8 points on 3-13 shooting while being on a minutes restriction, Sixers fans will be glad to see some healthy faces in their lineup as their injury woes refuse to come to an end.
