Rankings being a ruse and the need for AI to replace it has been an ongoing storyline with Dana White. After each PPV, White takes note of the changes in the rankings with fighters shuffled up or down. The UFC’s head honcho, once again, was left with a feeling of disgust as Jon Jones was snubbed of the P4P number 1 spot. Despite a dominating performance over one of the best UFC heavyweights, Jones still didn’t get the nod.
This has been a matter of serious consideration for Dana White, who has been actively campaigning against it. Jones’ nearly 20-fight unbeaten winning streak in UFC and most title fight wins certainly gives him an edge over his peers. This is something White wholeheartedly agrees with and hopes to bring a radical change in rankings with the aid of tech giant Mark Zuckerberg.
White expected Jones to finally climb up the mountain of P4P and claim his rightful throne. But unfortunately for him, he was denied yet again. UFC head’s continued campaigning for him to take over the P4P spot has certainly filled Jones with a feeling of gratitude and honor.
White feels AI pioneer Zuckerberg can fix this issue once and for all. Zuckerberg has already been making waves in AI with innovations like Meta AR Glasses, Metaverse, and so on. This pairing could perfect the strange ranking problem that impacts fighters all over.
In the past, Max Holloway and Khalil Rountree suffered the brunt of it as well. In the case of Holloway, the Hawaiian star’s win over Justin Gaethje didn’t move him into the top 3 spot in the lightweight rankings. Similarly, Rountree saw no improvements despite a valiant outing against Champion Alex Pereira. Fortunately, these issues were resolved later on, but the P4P controversy continues.
Dana White draws comparison between Jon Jones and Elon Musk after UFC 309
It is without a doubt that Jones’ fight IQ is in a realm of its own. The 37-year-old mixed martial artist is known to beat his adversaries at their own game. This is something he has showcased in his exemplary run in the UFC, and he continues to do so. Dana White drew a comparisons of Jones with Elon Musk after what he managed to pull off against veteran heavyweight Stipe Miocic.
Beating UFC’s heavyweight goat in such a dominant fashion is a feat on its own. Throughout the UFC 309 title fight, Jones was in complete control and even imposed his will on Miocic. The mixed martial artist ended the fight in the most impressive fashion that really won the UFC head over.
No matter which way MMA communities lean towards, Jones’ status as one of the greatest of all time is undeniable. The mixed martial artist has been beating world champions for over a decade, and his dominance hasn’t dulled even slightly. Now with the Miocic fight on the back burner, Tom Aspinall could be seen as the next big match-up for Jones.
