The 2024 season is edging closer to end with the 18th UFC event from New York and 13th PPV blockbuster. At 309, arguably the greatest fighter of all time takes on arguably the greatest heavyweight in UFC competition. Both return from long layoffs, but go up in stake to be pure Pay-per-view (PPV) draws and big payouts. G.O.A.T. Jon Jones and challenger Stipe Miocic can thus make big fight purses this weekend.
The event has other special highlights as well. UFC 309 pay-per-view (PPV) co-main event lightweight fight sees Charles Oliveira vs. Michael Chandler in a rematch. There are other names on the card too of big mettle and warranting big payouts. But โBonesโ and Stipe Miocic make for the biggest of storylines and could see the biggest of banks.
Jon Jones (27-1 MMA, 21-1 UFC) captured the vacant 265-pound strap in March 2023. Ever since, he has been on the bench (since last November) due to a pectoral tear, thus with an incumbent reign. He meets former champ Miocic (20-4 MMA, 14-4 UFC) in a supposed double retirement legacy billing. UFC and athletic commissions no longer release the fighter purses. But here is a brief look at what these โheavyweightโ giants can earn, based on previous paydays.
Salary of Jon Jones at UFC 309
โBonesโ enters the competition again after a debut title victory over heavyweight standout Ciryl Gane in 2023. While just 1-0 at 265 compared to Miocic, Jones is a G.O.A.T. for a reason. His run at the 205-pound class for example earns him the spot of roster-roost for a long while. His fight purse at UFC 309 could prove just that.
As a young star at light-heavyweight, his square-up with Mauricio Rua saw him earn in the $70,000 bracket and win another $70,000 win bonus. Against the dangerous Quinton โRampageโ Jackson he leaped to the $200,000 earning bracket. โBonesโ also made 520,000 in win bonus and another $440,000 in PPV payout.
Jon Jones and his cageside submission of one Lyoto Machida saw double the earning bracket and $370,000 in PPV payouts. He entered the usual $500,000 payment foray against rivalries like Daniel Cormier, Alexander Gustafsson, Ovince Saint Preux, and others. He went in for a $2,000,000 sum in his first-round submission of Gane with a $50,000 bonus and $1,450,000 in buys ($3,542,000 all-in).
As reported by Sportysalaries, Jones signed an improved contractual rehash, and now reportedly earns $3 million per bout. His UFC 309 guaranteed purse could come with a win bonus of $100k, and also a $42k sponsorship per the UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance payout tier program.
Salary of Stipe Miocic at UFC 309
Stipe Miocic has one of his biggest pay-per-view assignments at UFC 309 this Saturday. At 42 and on the bench, he ballooned up to quite the underdog. Even right now, bets are propping for Jones +120 to win by KO/TKO/DQ, and +200 by submission. But Miocic isnโt without his weapons. His six UFC heavyweight title fight victories are already the most in history. Miocic can also become only the second fighter in UFC competition to hold three title reigns in a single weight class.
His biggest payout was against Cormier at UFC 252 ($1,190,000) with $400,000 buyouts and $40,000 sponsorships. Miocic too earned big bucks and in big brackets of $600,000 against names like Alistair Overeem and Junior Dos Santos. But he made strides and started payouts in brackets of $750,000 against ex-UFC lineal heavyweight Francis Ngannou and โDCโ.
The fighter takes on his first assignment under the post-Zuffa LLC โVenumโ sponsorship era program tiers. Stipe Miocic will take home a guaranteed $1 million purse for the pay-per-view top-bill duty. His guaranteed payday could also see a $100k win bonus and $32k in sponsorship if he gets past the G.O.A.T.
