Conor McGregor has yet to make his much-anticipated return, which has been in the works for a year now. From canceled flights to excessive delays, the ‘Notorious’ has kept supporters waiting far too long. On top of that, the latest news about McGregor’s return has crushed any remaining hope.
After the cancellation of UFC 303, McGregor was confident about making a return in late 2024. ‘The Notorious’ wanted a December date from UFC but nothing materialized. In a recent interview with MMA reporter Ariel Helwani, McGregor finally gave a timeline but it doesn’t come this year.

McGregor has two fights remaining under his UFC contract and the fighter wants to get both of them in 2025. According to the Irishman, he’s the ‘highest generating fighter on planet earth’ right now and isn’t sure about his future after UFC. As per assumptions, getting a lucrative UFC deal and further getting back into boxing could be possible.
McGregor wanted to fight Michael Chandler, but the ‘Iron’ has given up after two years of waiting. The former double champion also mentioned fighting Charles Oliveira, but it isn’t looking good either. As always, nothing is concrete when it comes to McGregor’s decisions. However, Dan Hooker has thrown in his hat for a shot at McGregor. Hooker is on a 3-fight winning streak with the latest coming against Mateusz Gamrot at UFC 305. Therefore, his recent performances and his personality make him a good candidate for McGregor’s return.

Conor McGregor is a multi-millionaire who is known for partying hard whenever possible. The fighter frequently makes news for becoming involved in controversies such as alleged ra*e cases and reckless driving. Regardless of his assurances, fans only see him attending events and drinking Proper Twelve.
Many fans and experts, including Dana White, have questioned Conor McGregor’s lack of determination. UFC veteran Ben Askren recently discussed this on a podcast with Daniel Cormier. Askren expressed his doubts about McGregor’s return, along with some serious accusations.
Conor McGregor is an addict and he’s charismatic enough, rich enough that it doesn’t really have a huge negative impact on his life. So, everyone kind of like lets him do what he wants to do.

Similarly to Askren, former UFC champion Sean O’Malley has referred to McGregor as an ‘addict’ and psychologically ill. UFC Hall of Famer, Chael Sonnen has already highlighted McGregor’s allegedly going through rehab. While these are simply allegations, the general public’s opinion of McGregor has already inclined in that direction.
