Miami Dolphins Tyreek Hill 'briefly detained' before Jaguars game

With the United States inching towards the Presidential elections, citizens are on their tiptoes watching every single incident that is occurring around the country. Any situation can have ramifications as the citizens will probably tie it with the problems they face. ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith feels the situation involving NFL star Tyreek Hill earlier today is one such incident.

Tyreek Hill was pulled over by Miami-Dade police while on his way to his Miami Dolphins game. But how they subdued him led the longtime analyst to write this on his official X account:

This story with the police involving Tyreek Hill ain’t going away damnit. Traffic violation? Fine. But WTH was he face down in cuffs, stood up, then the other officer runs over behind him and forces him to the ground again??? Hell No! Excessive! Wrong! Again, this ain’t going away.

His writing reflects his belief that the officers’ behavior had racial motivations. His last line suggests he will ensure that he will talk about this as long as some sort of justice isn’t obtained.

The photos and videos shared online by fans and other passersby show an excessive use of force. That too for a traffic violation when he was on the way to work. The incident caused an uproar in the sporting community as it seemed the police officers were being too harsh.

Stephen A. Smith has always spoken up about the need for racial equality. Be it in sports or any walk of life. To prove his point, he brought into light another incident involving police and another sporting superstar.

Shockingly, the first full day of the NFL season was marred by such an incident. According to Hill’s agent, he was physically unharmed but was mentally distraught. Miami-Dade Police Department’s Director issued a statement saying that the incident is under review.

Stephen A. Smith brings Scottie Scheffler arrest as reference

The 56-year-old analyst referenced star golfer Scottie Scheffler‘s arrest at the Valhalla Golf Club earlier this year. He compared that to the arrest video of Tyreek Hill to emphasize his point in another tweet;

Look for yourself. This is b.s. Totally unnecessary. And btw…., I know the Scottie Scheffler incident was in Georgia — not Florida — and he was arrested, detained, booked. I also know we don’t know all the details, blah….blah…..blah! But he wasn’t faced down on the ground in cuffs? Then forcibly sat down again by officers a second time. Nah! This story isn’t going away — and it doesn’t need to.

Suggesting that it clearly shows a bias between the two incidents. The authorities did not use excessive force against Scottie Scheffler as they did against the Miami Dolphins star.

Police arrested Scottie Scheffler in May after a ‘misunderstanding with traffic flow.’ In that incident, the police officer arrested him after a verbal disagreement. In this situation, Smith cannot understand the need to force Hill to be face down on the road, that too with four cops.

With the country’s Presidential Elections on the way, Smith could end up taking his wrath out on the Republican-led state of Florida and its practices. One of the officers is currently off patrol duty as the investigation proceeds.
