Former Los Angeles Lakers star Nick Young made some pretty bold comments in regards to two legends of the sport. Young made an appearance on Gil’s Arena podcast, where he spoke about former players legends like Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett. Young is known for his unusual takes in and around the sport, and he laid one out.

Tim Duncan led the San Antonio Spurs to six NBA finals and won five rings. The same cannot be said for Garnett. Most people have Duncan on the Top 10 players list. Meanwhile, Garnett might not make that cut. However, Young feels otherwise. Controversial takes would surely be debatable amongst NBA fans around the world. Nick Young felt that championship rings don’t tell the entire story.

Yes, Tim was great but just because you got accomplishments and championships doesn’t mean that you better than the person. For me, I feel like his team was better than the Timberwolves. If you put KG on [the Spurs], I think he’d have the same amount of rings.

Tim Duncan spent 19 seasons with the San Antonio Spurs. Across 1,392 regular-season games, he averaged 19.0 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.2 blocks. On the other hand, Garnett averaged 17.8 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists throughout 1,462 regular-season games.

The Spurs legend was selected to participate in 15 All-Star games. Hence, as mentioned above, this topic would surely be debatable amongst NBA fans. Also, Duncan ups Garnett when it comes to numbers in the NBA. It remains to be seen whether Duncan reacts to this take or chooses to ignore it as always.

Kevin Garnett once boldly claimed that he is ‘better’ than Tim Duncan

Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan were likely the league’s top power forwards. However, the latter has always been considered superior. This is because he had a more prosperous NBA career and won more rings than Garnett. Notably, the former Celtics and Timberwolves star boldly claimed he is ‘better’ than Duncan.

I would say so, I didn’t play on probably better teams than Timmy played, but I thought I was a better player. Thought I did more, all around a better player, but shout to Timmy and his body of work and what he did too. Salute.

Duncan outscored Garnett 5-1 in rings. Also, 10-4 for the First Team All-NBA squad, 15-9 for All-NBA teams, 15-12 for All-Defensive teams, and 2-1 for MVPs. However, Garnett was selected 9–8 times more often for the All-Defensive first team than Duncan. He also won the DPOY title in 2008. Hence, this debate completely depends on one’s opinion regarding the two players.
