Dana White: 'I made a promise to Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic'

UFC CEO Dana White is sick of pound-for-pound arguments. For him, there is no denying that Jon Jones is the current pound-for-pound king of MMA. The 55-year-old maverick has had that argument many times. Despite the dip of โ€œglazingโ€ from the online UFC fanbase, White and the UFC declared Jones as the best of the best there is. However, Tom Aspinall has come out as the winner of the discourse.

With an entire week to prepare before media availability, White used UFC production staff to make a Jon Jones legacy promo. The video clip went viral soon after. โ€˜Bonesโ€™ himself posted and reposted the matter on X in anticipation. A since-deleted repost tweet of the video card is now going viral evermore! It subtly reads an embossed version of the text โ€œI am ducking Tom Aspinallโ€ in the left-hand corner.

Itโ€™s worth noting, however, that the promo video does not announce that Jones is set to fight Stipe Miocic. Technically, โ€˜Bonesโ€™ remains unbooked, a rare instance of UFC actively promoting a fighter who doesnโ€™t have a fight. With Dana Whiteโ€™s efforts, the undisputed heavyweight champion is projected to return atop the November UFC 309 pay-per-view card.

Meanwhile, Tom Aspinall subbed in and won the interim HW belt last November when Jones took his out due to a shock pectoral injury. In yet another rare instance, the English heavyweight even made a defense of his substitute belt at UFC 304. Jones has long snubbed Aspinall from unification chances. Now, this new imagery hits the frames on those fronts. As such, the matter has gone viral.

Fight fans react to Jon Jones โ€˜duckingโ€™ Tom Aspinall tease

Jon Jones has a much stronger case for the G.O.A.T. than current pound-for-pound king. Islam Makhachev has been scuffling with the Rochester native fighter over the top spot for a long. While many hardcore fans still consider Jones a No. 1 Pound-for-pound even on limited appearances, his snubbing of Tom Aspinall has irked their attention.

Jones, 37, still questions the wisdom of fighting Tom Aspinall after Miocic in November. His main point for a legacy snub has been that Aspinall is not a big enough name yet. However, Jones often faced ridicule from more keen-eyed fans, who anointed him as the G.O.A.T. of drug test pools failed, and most UFC belts were stripped. Now, this new imagery only adds to that ridicule. Hereโ€™s what the MMA community had to say.

The Jones vs. Stipe Miocic marathon booking over Tom Aspinall now reaches an official status with Jonesโ€™ own tweet (@JonnyBones / X). Itโ€™s not clear whether this was an intentional poke or the fighter just reposted some re-edited snapshot from a troll.

However, fans are fully calling the matter to attention. A prominent reaction (@WubbaX333) even quipped, โ€œSomeone in the production team is getting fired lol ๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ˜ญโ€ฆโ†™๏ธโ€. As such, things have taken a new turn for a guy like โ€˜Bonesโ€™ who maintains active commentary on socials. Both he and Aspinall have yet to respond.
