Belal Muhammad defeated Leon Edwards via unanimous decision. The fight took place in Manchester, England, and marked the much-anticipated rematch from their previous encounter in 2021. That fight disappointingly ended in a no-contest due to an eye poke.

However, this time Muhammad pushed through and went the distance with the reigning champion. After dominating the fight with effective striking, and numerous takedowns the judges awarded the victory to โ€˜Remember The Nameโ€™ making him the first fighter of Palestinian origin to win a UFC title.

Belal Muhammad puts โ€˜legacyโ€™ vs. โ€˜boogeymanโ€™ for first title defense

Belal Muhammad has already short-listed two opponents he would like to face for his first title defense. Leon Edwards would not be one of them. UFC CEO, Dana White revealed at the post-fight press conference that since Edwards had only two title defenses under his belt, he would not qualify for an immediate title rematch.

Tensions have already built with former champion Kamaru Usman as the two traded jabs on social media. As such in a recent interview with ESPN MMA, Muhammad named the two fighters he would want to fight coming up for his first title defense. They were Kamaru Usman and Shavkat Rakhmonov.

Anyone of them, right. Usman, obviously I think for legacy… I think name value he has a bigger name…but also I want to fight the boogeyman, the boogeyman that everyone says that he can beat anybody, he can walk through anybody.
