Why UFC Released Muhammad Mokaev (the full story)

Muhammad Mokaev found himself in massive trouble. Despite winning his last bout at UFC 304, the UK fighter has no UFC contract. With Mokaev desperately trying to win over the UFC top brass, ex-champion Aljamain Sterling has come in support.ย After a fierce rivalry going into UFC 304, Muhammad Mokaev defeated Manel Kape via unanimous decision.

Right after the fight, UFC CEO Dana White brutally cut Mokaev from the UFC roster. To fix things, the Russian-born British fighter has agreed to fight in the UFC for free. This has attracted a variety of comments from fight fans. However, surprisingly, Sterling has taken it upon himself to clear the air and point out the major highlights of the situation.ย

Reading a lot of these comments shaming Mokaev, but hereโ€™s some fighter prospective:- No other promotion is paying him what heโ€™s making in the UFC rn.- Not many high level promotions have the 125 division.- He shot himself in the foot with his actions and is trying to find a way to make it right at the expense of pride.

Previously, during his MMA Hour interview, Aljamain Sterling believed that UFC did wrong by cutting offย  Mokaev like that. According to the โ€˜Funk Master,โ€™ the rising star has swallowed his pride, and the UFC should reconsider its decision. Apart from his bad relationship with UFC, the flyweight was also accused of negotiating with PFL while being under contract with UFC.

However, PFL president Ray Sefo has revealed they are not interested in signing Mokaev. According to Sefo, the flyweight is tough to deal with, and the promotion doesnโ€™t want to take the risk. With PFL closing their gates for Mokaev, the โ€˜Punisherโ€™ has no other option but to try his best to get a new UFC contract.ย

Undefeated and unemployed Muhammad Mokaev is not worried about futureย

Muhammad Mokaev entered the UFC in 2022 in the hopes of becoming the youngest-ever champion, breaking Jon Jonesโ€™ record. During his time in the promotion, Mokaev won seven fights, finishing four of his opponents. However, the 24-year-old was released from the UFC and is now unemployed.

Ahead of 304, Muhammed Mokaev and Manel Kape were involved in a nasty brawl. During the post-fight presser, Mokaev admitted to sucker-punching the Portuguese due to their old rivalry. This has not sat well with fight fans, who have turned their back on the fighters like the promotions. Nevertheless, seeing what develops from here for the flyweight fighter would be interesting.ย
