Alexander Volkanovski boldly took a short-notice matchup last year, although they have not turned out to be good for him. Welterweight champion Leon Edwards will defend his belt against Belal Muhammad at UFC 304 this weekend. The former featherweight champion recently proposed that he step in if the fight fell through for whatever reason.
Alexander Volkanovski was joking for the most part when he said he would fight at UFC 304. He recently sat down for an interview with The MacLife. There, Volkanovski said that he was looking to fight for the title at another weight class. This was when Volk said that if any of the two headliners of the UFC 304 main event pulled out, he would gladly step in.
You never know. Leon or someone gets injured, it’s like do I need to go to welterweight, the heavyweights? Mate, believe it or not I’d do it.

He pointed out that it would definitely be a good pay day. Just like he did in his previous short-notice bout, the former UFC champion is ready to save the day. Volkanovski highlighted that he was good friends with Leon Edwards. He also said it would be a tough fight since he was a great fighter.
However, Volk did not say the same for title contender Belal Muhammad. The Australian was quick to highlight that he meant nothing disrespectfully. Stylistically, Muhammad was a fight Alexander Volkanovski believed he could take. The former champion said that although he believed in himself in every situation, Leon Edwards was “very, very threatening” in a lot of different areas.
When Belal Muhammad got mad at Alexander Volkanovski for not picking up his calls
During his interview with The MacLife, Alexander Volkanovski told an interesting story about Belal Muhammad. Volkanovski started off by highlighting that he went along well with everybody. Supposedly, Muhammad had once called the Australian while they were shooting for the UFC at two different locations.

Therefore, the welterweight ended up on X writing out tweets about Volkanovski. Meanwhile, Volkanovski got back to Muhammad and he had no idea about the tweets by then.
‘Remember The Name’ mentioned them on the call but the Australian had no idea. When he did find out about the tweets, Volkanovski was left amazed. The former champion iterated that he was still friends with everybody. However, he was surprised by how worked up Muhammad got over him not picking up his calls that he went on to X to write all of that.
