Following impressive performances for Team USA during the Paris Olympics, Stephen Curry was rewarded with a gold medal. However, it appears the shooting guard may be getting more than just a medal this time. Lately, the Golden State Warriors has taken action to secure their talisman, with a bumper new contract extension.
Per NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the Warriors and Stephen Curry have reached an agreement on a one-year, $62.6 million extension. The new deal will see him continue to play with the franchise until the 2026-27 league season. By signing the latest contract, the 36-year-old will hold on to his spot as the highest-earning player on the team. Furthermore, the NBA star is set to pocket a whopping $178 million over the course of three years.
Amid some notable offseason moves, the Golden State Warriors have made sure to take care of their best player. Curry had two years remaining on his four-year, $215.4 million contract that was signed back in August 2021. Also, he was only eligible to sign a one-year extension this offseason due to the NBA’s over-38 rule.
Curry is guaranteed $178 million over the next three years of his Warriors deal. Extension will be signed today, Austin tells ESPN.

Curry’s impact in the semifinal against Serbia and the final against France, enabled the USA to taste victory once again. Despite playing in his first-ever Olympic Games, those performances helped to guarantee a consecutive 5-time gold medal for the USA. With the 10-time All-Star proving his credentials on the world stage, it would be disastrous for the Warriors to lose someone of his talent and pedigree. Hence, their decision to move fast to tie him down with a well-deserved extension.
Warriors aim to correct poor off-season with Stephen Curry extension
The Warriors don’t have the best off-season, considering their title ambitions. Their offseason started by losing franchise icon Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks in free agency. Afterwards, they waived Chris Paul instead of guaranteeing him $30 million for the 2024-25 season.
It appears general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr., has now taken steps to strengthen the team roster ahead of the new season. While the departures will undoubtedly be felt, the extension of Stephen Curry by the Golden State Warriors would calm some nerves. On the other hand, Jonathan Kuminga remains eligible for an extension.
Meanwhile, the franchise has brought in other players such as Kyle Anderson, De’Anthony Melton and Buddy Hield. While there are plenty of doubts hanging on them, it’s looking like a team building back slowly. As for Curry, it gets better for him. Last season, he averaged 26.4 points on three-point shooting, 5.1 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game. It’s safe to say he will look to build on that, heading into next season.
