Colby “Chaos” Covington has made a lot of enemies since he fought Demian Maia in Brazil as he turned heel after the UFC revealed their plans to cut him. Moreover, he became a lifelong enemy of Jorge Masvidal, his former best friend and training partner. Another enemy Covington made at the American Top Team was Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier.
Poirier’s upcoming fight is against Islam Makhachev for the undisputed lightweight title at UFC 302. Even though he is a big underdog, fight fans want Poirier to upset the odds, potentially setting up a fourth fight with Conor McGregor. Weeks before the fight, Covington has now thrown shade at his former teammate.
A guy like Dustin Poirier, he never wants anybody to talk bad about him. He wants to be known as a family man, but off-camera, the guy’s a piece of sh*t…He’s a fake nice guy. 100% fake nice guy.

Covington alleged Dustin Poirier doesn’t shake hands inside the gym. Moreover, he also accused Poirier of disrespecting and disregarding the fight fans. For Covington, fight fans are the reason fighters make money.
Covington has called for a fight with Poirier on several occasions. However, it did not materialize. Covington’s first aim is to be the undisputed UFC welterweight champion. Afterward, he has political ambitions.
Colby Covington speaks on his political aspirations
Colby Covington is a staunch MAGA Republican and a diehard supporter of Donald Trump. He has been on several conservative news outlets and events. The UFC has several pro-Trump fighters, and Covington was among the first.
As such, Covington has political ambitions after becoming a UFC champion. The three-time UFC welterweight title challenger is a resident of Florida and, hence, wants to begin his political journey in the Sunshine State.
I want to be the governor of Florida, you know. I want to get in it, and you know, I talk about being the change. I want to actually be the change. You know, I’m not going to sell out. I’m not going to, you know, allow the tax-paying people in America to pay their hard-earned money, you know, for taxes in America. I don’t want these taxes going elsewhere. America first. I stand for America first.

If he becomes the governor, he won’t let cities rot and unclean. Moreover, he won’t allow the foreign usage of taxpayer’s dollars as he is against using American money for foreign wars. He revealed he has enough money in the bank and thus won’t succumb to bribes.
Nonetheless, Covington’s priority is to become a UFC champion. Therefore, he has targeted a number one contender status with a fight against Belal Muhammad, though Ian Garry has been clamoring for a fight. The direction the UFC would take with Covington remains to be seen.
